Updated Password Requirements

Dear ESS+ and DEN Users,

In order to strengthen County Passport passwords, effective on your next required password change, your new password must follow the best practices criteria listed below.

Passwords must be at least 8 characters and include ALL of the following minimum character requirements:
• One uppercase letter
• One lowercase letter
• One number
• One special character such as ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/

Additionally, permanent passwords cannot be changed for at least one day and cannot be the same as a previous password.


Here are some tips on creating strong passwords:
> DO use at least 8 characters in length (the longer the better).
> DO include upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.
> DO use at least four different characters in your password (no repeats).
> DO create a password that looks like a sequence of random letters and numbers.
> DON'T use ANY PART of your login name for your password.
> DON'T use personal information about yourself, such as your child's name or your birth date.
> DON'T use any actual word or name in ANY language.
> DON'T use numbers in place of similar letters.
> DON'T reuse any portion of your old password.
> DON'T use consecutive letters or numbers like "abcdefg" or "234567".
> DON'T use adjacent keys on your keyboard like "qwerty".

An example of a strong password is Msi5!YOld (My Son is 5 years old) or IhliCf5#yN (I have lived in California for 5 years now).
